About Us
Beveridge Park Bowling Club is a small friendly Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We have a Board of Trustees (Committee) but is reliant on volunteers who all help to run the club by sharing duties, where necessary.
In 2012, after meetings with Fife Council, the members agreed to take over the responsibility of the maintenance of the clubhouse in its entirety, keeping the building wind and watertight, also the maintenance of one bowling green and the area surrounding the green.
The club became a registered charity in July 2018. After being successful in obtaining funding, the clubhouse refurbishment was completed in 2020 and sprinkler system for the green installed 2021.
Funds and Fundraising
Fundraising is important, to cover the cost of running the club as well as any unexpected bills/repairs if we want to see the club prosper. We hope that all members would support any fundraising events including our weekly bonus ball.
Here is an example of some of the fundraising activities of the club:
- Club subscriptions of £100 per annum per member and an initial £5 fee for a locker key.
- Sponsorship by local businesses.
- Lottery bonus ball. The winner of the bonus ball each Saturday receives half of the total pot with the other half going to the Club.
- The last few years we have held a coffee morning with raffle, tombola, and bottle stall.
- In the winter months we have whist and carpet bowls.
- Smartie Tubes are a good idea as a tube holds £10 of 20p’s and is an easy way to raise some funds.
- A Xmas Raffle which was very successful last year.
- Bingo and Quiz afternoons.
- Various internal charges, for coffee, tea, water, home and away ties, hat days and club competitions.
New Members
Coaching is available for any newcomers who wish to try bowls for the first time or for those who have not played for some time and wish to take up the sport again. New members will receive keys to the clubhouse four weeks after joining. It is important that the alarm to the clubhouse and padlocks are in place correctly and, to this end, training will be given. The rules of the game may be purchased from Bowls Scotland, are available online or can be viewed in the clubhouse. To ensure use of the proper equipment, training will be given to any members who request it.
Annual General Meeting
There is an Annual General Meeting on a Sunday in November at the clubhouse and all members are invited to attend. At this meeting there is an election of Trustees and Office Bearers, and the Treasurer’s Report is presented.
Our current Board of Trustees (Committee) consists of President, Treasurer and Secretary and 3 Trustees. We also have various sub-groups to assist in the running of the Club.
Friendlies
Friendlies are played with other local Clubs home and away throughout the year which are played on a Saturday afternoon followed by a buffet tea. Four rinks are usually required and if you wish to play, names should be added to the list on the noticeboard.
The ladies’ section arranges a few friendlies on Thursday afternoons with the same arrangement. Names of those wishing to play should add their name to the list on the ladies’ noticeboard.
Hat Games
There are two ‘hat’ games played on Monday mornings and Thursday evenings. Monday’s games start at 10.00 am and Thursday evenings can vary, depending on the time of year, but usually are at 6.30 pm. Hat games start prompt at times advised. Members wishing to play should be in the Clubhouse at least 30 minutes before starting times, to allow the draw to be made. If there is not a friendly on a Saturday afternoon members will play a hat game.
The men aged 55 and over play in a Seniors League against local clubs.
Our ladies started to play last year in Fife Women’s Bowling Association competitions.
Internal Competitions
Each year we have internal competitions which members can put their names down for, draws are then made. Ties are played between members with finals being played on a finals weekend usually during September. There is a presentation dinner held during November.

Groups using Our Club
We have a few groups using the clubhouse on a regular basis – STAND (dementia support group) and Find Your Feet (amputee charity)
We host pupils from Balwearie High School Department of Additional Support Needs throughout the season teaching them bowling. The club is also the home of Disability Sport Fife (DSF) Lawn Bowls Championship and has been for a number of years, where the club provides member volunteers as do other local clubs to assist in hosting this event in conjunction with DSF.
Winter Activities
We are open over the winter on a Monday pm, Thursday evening, Friday pm and Saturday pm for carpet bowls and everyone is welcome to attend these sessions. We are also open on a Tuesday pm for whist. Should you have any ideas for other activities over the winter months please let us know.
Safeguarding/Training/Policies
We have many policies in place safeguarding all members. We are also compliant with Bowls Scotland Child Welfare and Protection in Sports. In addition, we have two members who are our designated Child Welfare Protection Officers. Several members have Disclosure Scotland PVG Status and have completed First Aid at work courses provided by Fife Council Community Use. The Club has installed a Defibrillator on outside wall of the club which also gives access to the public using the Beveridge Park.
Volunteers
As mentioned, previously, we do rely on volunteers to help maintain the club and grounds outside, open/close for groups using club. We are very fortunate to have a group of volunteers, but we always need more to help spread the workload.
